Legislative proposals, NHS People Plan and Dame Sally Davies

Legislative proposals, NHS People Plan and Dame Sally Davies

24th June 2019

Good afternoon,

Today the Health and Social Care Committee published its report on the NHS Long Term Plans legislative proposals - in sum, they warmly welcome the intention behind the proposals to promote collaboration and lessen the role of competition in the NHS. Read the report summary here and the full report here. Although that inquiry has now ended and a Government response and/or draft bill is expected, tomorrow the Committee shall hear once more from NHS England Chief Executive Simon Stevens. This time it is an accountability session, which amongst other things, will explore the Long Term Plan, funding and workforce.

This morning, the All-Party Parliamentary Health Group spoke about these same topics, when our Parliamentary officers met with Baroness Harding, Chair NHS Improvement and Matt Tagney, Programme Director of the NHS Long Term Plan on how the NHS can deliver a plan that focuses on work culture, collaboration and system change to facilitate and implement the People Plan and the NHS Long Term Plan. A summary shall be available in due course and we hope to hear from Baroness Harding again after the Spending Review upon publication of the costed, full NHS People Plan.

Also, on behalf of the APHG, I would like to congratulate Professor Dame Sally Davies, who very kindly spoke to us in March on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), summary available upon request, and has now been appointed as the UK special envoy on AMR to lead the UK's global work.

Have a lovely week,

Best wishes,

Emelie
