AMR Strategy; Suicide Prevention Plan; NHS Long Term Plan

28th January 2019

Last week Health and Social Care Secretary of State published the UK 5-year action plan and 20-year vision to tackle the threat of antibiotic resistance (AMR). Speaking at the World Economic Conference in Davos, the Health Secretary asked attendees to imagine a world without antibiotics to illustrate the urgency and called for action. Read his full speech here.

The Government published its response to the Health and Social Care Select Committee Inquiry Report on AMR. Read the inquiry report here and the Government response here. On 12th March, the APHG will hear more about AMR when Chief Medical Officer Dame Sally Davies will brief the Group on the published strategy.

Earlier last week, Government published its first cross-government suicide prevention plan. The plan focuses on the roles of social media and the latest technology and will be led by Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Jackie Doyle-Price. Read the plan here.

Today, the Health and Social Care Committee heard evidence from the Health and Social Care Secretary, if you missed it, listen back to the session here or keep an eye on the inquiry website here for a full transcript to be published soon. This session was the second and final session on the Budget and NHS Long-term plan.

Finally, I am pleased to let you all know that Policy Connect has moved office and is now based in Dover Street near Borough Station.

I wish you all a lovely week.
