Royal College of Physicians

The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) has been supporting and representing physicians for nearly 500 years.  The RCP represents 25,000 physicians across the UK and internationally.

The RCP's main activities are:

  • Setting and monitoring standards of medical training to ensure that patients are treated by fully trained and capable doctors
  • Ensuring that senior physicians sit on appointments committees to ensure that new consultants are of high calibre
  • Providing evidence-based clinical guidelines and audits to support its fellows and members in improving and scrutinising clinical care
  • Offering education programmes that provide physicians with the knowledge and skills they need in their roles

In addition to supporting physicians in their daily practice, the RCP takes a wide role in public health, including campaigning for change, advising government and Parliament, and taking part in national debates on medical, clinical and public health issues.
