Major Developments (8th December – 19th
December)
Parliament debated health-related
legislation including the Children’s Bill in the debate on the Queen’s
Address (see Commons Chamber and Lords Chamber below)
The NHS IT Programme announced APHG member
BT as the winner of the contract to become the national provider of the
National Care Records Service, a central element of the NPfIT that will see Patients will have their own individual
electronic health care record in the NHS by 2010. BT also successfully won the bid to
become the local service provider for the London region. See Department
of Health below for more information.
Sir Nigel Crisp, NHS Chief Executive, published his annual
report. See Department of Health below for more information.
Secretary of State for Health Dr John Reid presented the patient
choice consultation paper Building on the Best - Choice, Responsiveness and Equity in the NHS to Parliament.
The
APHG hosted a busy programme of exciting meetings, with the first ever
regional primary care initiative for London on Tuesday 9th
December, followed by updates from both Rt Hon John Hutton MP, Minister of
State for Health, and Richard Granger, Director General of NHS IT, and a
meeting ‘delivering children’s services’ with Minister for Children Margaret
Hodge and National Clinical Director for Children Prof Al Aynsley-Green
amongst the speakers the following week. Thank you to our Officers, Advisors
