Major Developments (13th – 17th September)

 

Conference recess begins

 

Parliament rose on Friday for the three-week conference recess. The conference season begins with the Liberal Democrats in Bournemouth this week, sees Labour in Brighton the week after, and ends with the Conservative Party Conference in the week of 4th October.

 

Liberal Democrat Party Conference

 

The Liberal Democrat Party conference is taking place this week in Bournemouth. Wednesday will see most of the main business on health matters discussed.

 

Children’s Bills and Children’s NSF

 

The National Service Framework (NSF) for Children, Young People and Maternity Services was published last week. This aims to ensure that all children and young people get services that are age-appropriate and accessible, and recognises that their needs are different. In the same week as the NSF was announced, the Children’s Bill passed through the Commons Chamber and into its committee stage by a majority of 241 to 72. See Chamber and Legislation below  

 

APHG Healthcare Commission briefing announced.

 

The first APHG briefing after recess will be with the Healthcare Commission on Tuesday 19th October. Chair and APHG Board member Sir Ian Kennedy will outline the work and plans of the commission direct to Parliamentarians through APHG for the first time.
