by the Royal College of Physicians as “the most important change to the
fabric of hospital medicine for a generation”, the European Working Time
Directive will come into full force in August this year, when it is extended to cover doctors in training. Following
a continental buffet breakfast, the meeting will look at the key issues
surrounding the Working Time Directive, including its implications for
emergency care, hospital services and primary care, its effect on both
doctors and nursing staff and an overview of the pilots and new ways of working
that have been developed by the Royal Colleges of Medicine and NHS
Modernisation Agency in answer to the Directive. The Week Ahead (12th – 16th July)
