Major Developments (26th – 30th June)

 

The NHS IT programme questioned in Parliament

The NHS IT programme was high on the health agenda in Parliament this week. Evidence was heard for the Public Accounts Committee inquiry into the programme before Richard Bacon MP raised the issue in Prime Minister’s Questions. On Wednesday morning Richard Granger, Chief Executive of NHS Connecting for Health, addressed MPs in an APHG meeting on the subject. Click here to read about past APHG events.

 

Hewitt denies NHS privatisation claims

The Secretary of State for Health has denied claims that the Government is seeking to ‘privatise’ the NHS after newspapers reported that the Department of Health had advertised for private health companies to apply for a wide range of roles in the control and running of PCTs. Healthcare Commission calls for action on chronic lung conditions

Following the publication of a national study of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, the Healthcare Commission has called for action to improve neglected services for people suffering from chronic lung conditions. Click here to read more.
