New Health White Paper introduced to Parliament

The new White Paper detailing the Government’s plans for primary care reform was introduced to the House of Commons on Monday 30th January.

Commons Health Questions

Lords Committee report raises concerns over the lack of drug testing on children

A report by the European Union Committee - Social and Consumer Affairs (Sub-Committee G) states that 90% of medicines used on new born babies have not been properly tested.

NHS patients receive fastest ever access to treatment

New waiting list figures released on Friday 3rd February show that by the end of last year the NHS had achieved the target of delivering a maximum wait of six months for treatment. This compares to 284,000 patients waiting longer than six months in March 1997.

Tuesday 7th February

APHG Briefing: The Our health, our care, our say White Paper. With Dr David Colin-Thome, NHS National Primary Care Director.

 

Opposition Day. There will be a debate on the future of mental health services followed by a debate on the re-organisation of primary care trusts, strategic health authorities and ambulance trusts. Both debates arise on an Opposition Motion.

 

Westminster Hall Private Members' Debates: Mr Paul Burstow on care and nutrition of older people. 

 

Westminster Hall Private Members' Debates: Mr Mark Harper on ambulance coverage in the Forest of Dean.

 

House of Lords: The Baroness Pitkeathley — To ask Her Majesty’s Government how they will ensure that Government departments coordinate their initiatives to improve carers’ health, well-being and opportunities for work and leisure.

Thursday 9th February

Westminster Hall: Debate on the Report from the Health Committee on new developments in sexual health and HIV/AIDS policy.

 

Health Select Committee: hears evidence on NHS Charges. Witnesses: British Dental Association, Royal College of General Practitioners, Association of Optometrists, Association of British Dispensing Opticians & Federation of Opthalmic & Dispensing Opticians, Royal College of Optometrists, Patientline, NHS Confederation, Simplyhealth Group (formerly HSA Group) and Standard Life.
